The Disturbance in Crane

•April 1, 2009 • Leave a Comment

There are many disturbing things going on in Crane High School that make students fail their classes. This is a big problem because no one is doing anything about these issues. It is important that administration does something about it, because students in Crane really need their education.

The main disturbances in Crane are electrical devices like cell phones, mp3 players, and IPods. These items are the reason why some students are not doing well in school. The teachers see the students listening and talking on the phones, and then they do not even say anything to them! Or, they just tell them to put it away and the students continue to do what they were doing before the teacher told them to get back to work.

Another reason why the students are not doing well in Crane is that the boys have their minds off of their work and on the wrong things. They hang out in the halls to distract other students, trying to get them to ditch classes with them. Students that follow them really do not care about their grades, because if they did, they would not be playing around with these boys. They would be trying to get their work done and earn good grades.

But Crane is not all bad, it is just some of the things that students are doing. If students were not allowed to bring electronics into Crane, the students would be able to concentrate and get good grades and have their minds focused on the right thing. Even though Crane policy states that students are not allowed to bring electronics to school, somehow they still bring in elestronics. This means that Crane policy should be enforced much better. Then there would be better opportunities for Crane students to bring up their scores and make Crane higher than other High Schools. Crane is a big Chicago Public School, and now it is our time to show these other schools how smart we are. It is time for a change.

Electronics

There are many types of electronics in the world. Many are used to help and entertain people. At Crane High School, there are quite a few electronics that help us. We have PC labs, automotive  technology, and  graphic design software with the MacBooks. There are scientific calculators to help us with math like algebra. Much of the work in the world is now is done on computers. Teachers now grade and mark attendance on their computers; it is then sent downtown to the Board Of Education.

Electronics are a big part of everyone’s life across the world. They help us succeed throughout life. In automotive work they use tools to lift cars, take engines out, and place things like brakes, oil pens, and wheels. In Graphic Design here at Crane we use MacBooks, where we focus on visual communication and presentation. In classrooms, we use scientific calculators to help us make graphs and put in equations. The computer labs are used often, where the students work on Science Fair, Math, and English projects.  For example, in the computer lab we worked on a family project where we used the application Microsoft Word to make a family tree. This was an opportunity to give us information on a software program that is used in businesses everywhere.

Technology helps Crane students get their work done, but it also helps school administrators do their work. The technological resources here at Crane play a big part in our daily lives.

Technology is our future, and without it we would not be able to finish our work here nor move on to our bright furture.

Achievement Academy

Achievement Academy is a program for freshmen, sophomores and juniors. The Achievement Academy is in many schools, but out of the many schools it is also here at Crane. The Achievement Academy allows the transition for students who have not yet received their eighth grade diploma in grammar school to begin high school. Students have to stay in Achievement Academy for two years, because they want you to be able to be in the right grade without fear of being put back as freshmen.

The freshmen class has good activities, freshmen teachers motivate you to keep trying and never give up. Counselors in Achievement Academy think highly of the program. One counselor said ”Achievement Academy allows them to continue a path to high school.”

School for me as a student in the freshmen achievement academy is a lot different than I thought. My friend and I long talked about coming to high school, I thought my freshmen year was going to be hard, but it wasn’t.   The Achievement Academy in Crane helped me get my eighth grade diploma so I can succeed in high school. The Achievement Academy it is a program that to work hard to succeed in.

Gang Violence Stopped At Crane Tech Highschool

Fox news reports that there was a peace rally thrown by Rev. Al Sharpton at Crane High School. This is to discuss gang violence in the school.  Rev.Sharpton and school principle Mr. Richard Smith had all gang members meet in the auditorium to form a peace treaty.

The gang members made a pledge to cease violence within the school and the surrounding areas. The purpose of this treaty is so that students would not be afraid to attend school. Students actually want a decent education.
In recent years there have school shootings. The shootings had a negative effect on the students.  It made the students feel as if they were in a war zone.  ”This story is fictional” This is what we hope to achieve.

All Crane Graduates To Attend College in Fall

•March 30, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Crane seniors have just graduated and all of them are going to college, all are doing excellent!  I have a cousin that graduated from Crane and she goes to Malcolm X, she goes to school in the morning and goes to work in the afternoon.
This is the second year in a row that every student that is graduating has been accepted to college, I think that it is good that everybody got accepted to college because people need a chance to get a scholarship and major in whatever the would like.  When I graduate from Crane, I am going to a good college somewhere out of state to get away from everybody and major in taking automotive classes so I can work on cars.

All the graduates of 2009 should be very happy to graduate out of high school and do something with their lives.  “This story is fictional” This is what we hope to achieve.

Question:  If school was not teaching me anything and I wanted to drop out what should I do?

Answer:  I think at this time dropping out would not be a good thing, because if you where to leave were would you go? Your mom would want you to get a job and seeing how the economy is now your not guaranteed a job, so the best bet would be for you to stay in school.

Q:  It’s a girl that does not  like me and I think she wants to fight me it’s not that i’m scared, I just don’t want to get suspended what should I do?

A: I think you should just stay your distance from this person, and avoid any conflict because getting suspended should be your last option and do not worry about people thinking your scared it’s just being smart.

Q:  There is this boy I use to go out with we broke up, and now he’s dating my friend what should I do?

A:  First of all that is not your friend because if she were she would not be with somone you were with ,that’s not cool so I think you should just leave them both alone.

Q:  There is a teacher that I do not  like and she does not like me. Should I hit her or bust her car windows? what should I do?

A:  You should get your classes changed because either one of those actions would result into a police report. Either you not deal with her or you get arrested.

Q:  I want a tattoo and my mom said I could not have one should I sneak and get one anyway?

A:  Well if you really truely love your mother you would not get one. But if you really want one just get it somewhere your mother would not look.

Q:  There is this cute girl in my class and I like her she does not know should I tell her?

A:  If you really do then I think you should go for it, what is the worst that could happen? Either she says yes,or no so it would not hurt to try.

Q:  If my friend did not smell to good and I knew, should I tell her?

A:  Yes I would tell her. she is  your friend, and she needs to know if she has a problem, so I would tell her.

The Sky Is Falling

Crane High School has a lot of problems with the building, including sanitary problems and parts that need construction. Some of these are dirty bathrooms, tiles coming off the ground and holes in the ceiling. Students say the building causes a certain feeling of depression and that they focus on the problems with the building more than their work. We think if Crane was in better condition and had more modern assets, it will produce a better working enviroment for the students.

Many people think Crane looks like a pretty nice school from the outside, but just like the saying ” never judge a book by the cover”, Crane looks rough if you look inside. The only floors they try to keep up to date is the first and second because that is where most of the visitors are. Yet the third and fourth floor remain a mess until after school, when the janitors are able to clean. When the school has tiles coming off the ground, holes in the ceiling and walls falling apart, the students do not really have respect for the building, so they do not care how it looks.

One way Crane can increase its appearance inside the building is by painting, adding new tiles to the floor, and devoloping more modern gym rooms, computer rooms, bathroom, and classrooms. Plus, some students would have more respect for their enviroment because they would not want to mess something up that they can not pay for. Also, they will have the same thing in their school that the rich suburban schools have. That might make the students really get involved and excited about coming to school.

Crane Relationships

•March 25, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Many different types of relationships are being formed here at Crane High School. Everyone needs somebody to have by their side other then your friends or family. Crane has all types of relationships, such as abusive, loyal, and ghetto ones. One type of relationship that Crane has is abusive. An abusive relationship could include extreme jealousy, emotional withholding, a lack of intimacy, rage, sexual coercion, infidelity, verbal abuse, threats, lies, broken promises, physical violence, power plays and control games. For example, you might witness a couple in the hallway having argument. What starts off as mental abuse then might lead to physical abuse. Words can make a person do crazy things, and the abusive relationships at Crane are some of the most violent relationships that you will encounter. Some of the males are so disrespectful toward the females. They call them names, pull their hair, and get very jealous. But not all Crane relationships are bad. Another type of relationship that Crane has is loyal. Some of the males and females may turn out be sweet, caring, and very respectful. There are some people in the world that really want a certain someone in their life that they could call their own. Some of the students at Crane are very committed. There are even people that you might think are a bad people but then they are so sweet. It is funny that you would find someone so big but so kindhearted. Ghetto is another type of relationship that Crane has. Couples could be the hall acting loud, rude, and disrupting classes. They just do not care how they put their relationship out in the world. One crazy thing about it is that a couple could be dating each other while dating other people, because they do not fully commit to each other. A ghetto couple at Crane is in their own little world and they just don’t care what they do or who is watching. They might be kissing, touching, hugging a little bit more then they should be. If you are looking for drama, you can find drama and if you are looking for love, you can find love.

Crane Lunch

•March 12, 2009 • Leave a Comment

When students first enter Crane High School as freshmen, they think the lunches are decent, but after a couple of years it is the same thing, day after day. So that made us wonder–where was all the money going? Because it was not going to different lunch meals. It seems like they just make sure they have enough food to go around. While they have different options for breakfast like eggs, grits, sausage, and donuts, when it comes to lunch, we only have the choice of pizza, nachos or chicken sandwiches.

Additionally, the lunchroom staff has attitudes when they come to work, and sometimes they do not allow people to eat if they do not have their IDs. Sometimes they are nice enough to give you something for free and they often joke around when they are in a good mood. What’s worse, the security do not like it if we have a food fight in the lunchroom, so they tell the lunchroom staff to serve “choke sandwiches” and peanut butter bars.

So interviewed students propose that they add a variety of selections to the menu and more nutritious selections, such as vegetables and soup instead of fatty greasy foods everyday. Plus, we would like to see more fruits and fruit juices. Some students prefer that they clean the fruit better. Most importantly, students think they should give them the choice of what they want for lunch.
